Although 'Essentials' sounds like a good title for a book on Revit, it really depends on what your level is, and what you need to get done, whether or not this book lives up to it's title, or not, for you.

I bought it as a reference book on my desk, while being tasked with production. Being of an intermediate level, I'm still amazed to the point of unbelief at the amount of 'workarounds' needed to accomplish a common production task, such as revisions to a project. One person found this helpful. Book for class. This book provides step by step instructions to create projects based off files you can download online to compliment to book.

You do need those large files for the book to be of use. The directions are simple, but they are super easy to screw-up. Also, the book gives you click by click instructions but never explains the click sequences and what each step in using the tools does. It's kind of like trying to teach physics with one example per problem type, without showing or acknowledging the equations that make it all work. I'm sure this book works great for some people, but if you are used to learning background rules then applying them to actions, rather than just following preconceived directions this book might not be for you.

And, it is significantly better in learning comprehension that regular tutorials where there's no way to backtrack your work. Having one of those simple step-by-step visual teacher as you work alongside the presentation really makes a difference. They start out with at least 1 working professional in AutoCad, you had 2 presenters and they come up with a very detailed project.
